Pastoral Council

The Parish Pastoral Council is a consultative body (Canon 536 par. 2) by which the Christian faithful of a parish, together with those who have pastoral authority in the parish, "give their help in fostering pastoral activity" (Canon 536 par. 1). Its work is to be informed and inspired by the vision of the Church, Tradition and Sacred Scripture and exemplified in the teaching of the Second Vatican Council and the new Catechism of the Catholic Church.The ways by which it fulfills its shared responsibility are: spiritual enrichment of its members; study of the Christian life of the People of God with special attention to their Christian vision, needs and hopes; discernment of the relationship of pastoral activity to the needs of the parish community; help in establishing priorities among pastoral activities and formation of policy and the development of programs.

Clear distinction between policy formation, which is the proper work of the Pastoral Council, and administration, which is the proper work of the Pastor and the parish Staff, shall be maintained. Parish Staff Members shall share with the Pastoral Council their knowledge and judgment.
